When I received a letter of appointment as NST Online Editor from Datuk Jalil Hamid in late October 2012, my hands trembled.
I was about to replace two capable associate editors but that was it. I told myself I could do it. And do it well.
The first month was groping around although I was Online assistant editor when I first started with NST in 2008.
The second month was easier but then I had to attend a family day in Janda Baik. Datuk Jalil was particularly eagle-eyed watching the team closely. There was no time for "main-main" and returning home after work is no longer sitting in front of the TV. Instead, I would be sitting in front of the computer monitoring and updating www.nst.com.my all the time.
January was getting tougher and I was equipped with an iPhone and later a Samsung tablet for easier access to the system.
But Polopoly is not mobile friendly and accessing the system is tough.
When the PM attended the CNY celebration in Penang, I was practically in front of the computer from 8am to 1am that day. The phone was ringing non-stop and smses came from Penang also non-stop.
But when it was over, I felt the satisfaction.
For more, wait for the second instalment
