Sleepless nights as online editor

When I received a letter of appointment as NST Online Editor from Datuk Jalil Hamid in late October 2012, my hands trembled.
I was about to replace two capable associate editors but that was it. I told myself I could do it. And do it well.
The first month was groping around although I was Online assistant editor when I first started with NST in 2008.
The second month was easier but then I had to attend a family day in Janda Baik. Datuk Jalil was particularly eagle-eyed watching the team closely. There was no time for "main-main" and returning home after work is no longer sitting in front of the TV. Instead, I would be sitting in front of the computer monitoring and updating www.nst.com.my all the time.
January was getting tougher and I was equipped with an iPhone and later a Samsung tablet for easier access to the system.
But Polopoly is not mobile friendly and accessing the system is tough.
When the PM attended the CNY celebration in Penang, I was practically in front of the computer from 8am to 1am that day. The phone was ringing non-stop and smses came from Penang also non-stop.
But when it was over, I felt the satisfaction.
For more, wait for the second instalment

A SELF CONFESSED ADDICT TURNING A NEW LEAF

It has been three months....almost. I managed to undergo the withdrawal symptom period. Not bad for someone who has been an addict for 20 years. A hardcore addict that is.
It was not a difficult process. Many thought I would crawl back to my old habit and old haunt every now and then. But then, I managed to stay clear and only take a whiff every now and then.
No! No! I am not a dadah addict. I was actually addicted to The Malay Mail and a day without the paper was hell once. But now, I am more at ease reading the tabloid online.
It was not easy to stay clear of something you love for 20 years. You can't just take it out of your mind.
But the only time I made contact with the Malay Mailers were during a berbuka puasa function organised by AmBank. I met the editor, Yushaimi Yahaya and then I had lunch with his two reporters, sometime last month.
My heart wanted me to visit them after work but my will said otherwise. Hang on! It said. Well! They may have forgotten who you are anyway, the will said.
Seriously, I don't think we can forget each other that easily. One fine day, I may just drop by and buy them the wonderful team a round of teh tarik.
One fine day...

RUMAH HANTU SHAH ALAM, HIGHLAND TOWER

Watched Banglo Seksyen 2 on TV recently. Not bad as it is related to a supposedly haunted house in Shah Alam.

No mention of UiTM or the city but then everything else points to the same house. It was exactly like what it was described on the Net.

Never been there and I don't think I want to despite visiting Highland Towers several times and staying overnight at Penjara Ayer Molek in JB.

Maybe a peek from the outside will do one fine day.

DULL LEAVE? NOT REALLY

I am on leave.....well until today technically. Back on the grind tomorrow. But it was really a dull long leave. Sleep, eat, looking at the skies all day long.Yeay!

Returned to office twice to finish up some paperwork but ended up working. Now who am I kidding!

I miss the office but not the perils. I miss my friends but never the bad moments.

Went back to Muar for a half day visit one day. Had satay for breakfast, ikan mayong for lunch before driving to Segamat to fetch Shahrul. Adrin was with me but we had to wait a rather enduring stay at UiTM as Shahrul was late.

But it was fun. Maybe another trip to Muar soon. For a reunion with some friends.
